Service Description

The Second Class FAA Medical Certificate is required for commercial pilots, including those who fly for hire such as corporate pilots, charter pilots (Part 135), and some flight instructors operating commercially. This examination ensures pilots meet the necessary medical standards to operate aircraft safely in commercial aviation settings. What to Expect During the Exam: The Second Class medical exam includes a thorough review of your medical history, vision and hearing tests, blood pressure check, and a physical examination focusing on neurological, cardiovascular, and general systemic health. Vision standards include distant and near visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception. Hearing is assessed via conversational voice testing. Electrocardiograms (EKGs) are not routinely required unless clinically indicated or based on age and class upgrades. Certificate Duration and Limitations: For pilots under age 40, the Second Class privileges are valid for 12 months. For those 40 and older, privileges also last 12 months, after which the certificate may revert to Third Class privileges (depending on the type of flying). This certificate allows the holder to exercise Second Class privileges (commercial pilot duties) for the duration of its validity. After expiration, unless renewed, it can no longer be used for commercial operations but may still be valid for lower-class privileges. It is important to note that this exam does not include cognitive or simulator-based testing, but any significant medical history (such as cardiac conditions, psychiatric diagnoses, or recent surgeries) may require additional documentation or FAA clearance.
